About the Variance Calculator

Look at a list of numbers and you might know the average, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Two groups can have the same mean while their individual values are spread out very differently.

That's where variance becomes useful. A Variance Calculator measures how much the numbers in a dataset differ from their average. The larger the variance, the more spread out the values tend to be.

This comes up often in statistics, data analysis, research, and classroom exercises. Doing the calculation by hand means finding the mean, working out each difference, squaring those differences, and putting everything together. It's not difficult, but it can get tedious with a larger dataset. A calculator simply takes care of those repetitive steps so you can focus on understanding the result.
